Special Event on the Occasion of the International Day of Peace and the UN Summit of the Future

19th September 2024

We are pleased to announce that our organization will host a special event to mark the International Day of Peace and the United Nations Summit of the Future. Please find the event details and registration information below.

Background

Today, the international community faces multiple challenges, including armed conflict, terrorism, refugee crises, food insecurity and poverty.

Amid these challenges, we believe that Youth Associated with Non-State Armed Groups (YANSAG)—because of their complex experiences—can also play a crucial role in peacebuilding and conflict resolution. They hold the potential to become unique agents of peace.

However, the international community often perceives them merely as causes of conflict or security threats. They lack access to education and empowerment opportunities, and are largely excluded from political decision-making processes.

It is therefore vital to protect their dignity as young people with a future—alongside women—and to create opportunities for them to become active contributors to positive change as agents of peace.

This event aims to deepen international understanding of these young people and provide a platform to discuss education and empowerment for YANSAG.

Held in conjunction with the International Day of Peace and the UN Summit of the Future, this event is a valuable opportunity for international dialogue. While it will be conducted in English and during late-night hours in Japan, we warmly welcome your participation.
