Executive Director Yosuke Nagai Speaks at the “3rd ASEAN-G7 Next Leaders Forum”

On September 16, our Executive Director, Yosuke Nagai, spoke at the “3rd ASEAN-G7 Next Leaders Forum,” hosted by the Ministry of Justice, Japan.

This forum is held with the aim of facilitating exchanges among young officials—the next generation of leaders in the legal and judicial fields—from ASEAN and the G7, building relationships of trust, and deepening their understanding of the “rule of law.”

Nagai delivered a lecture titled “Creating Precedent: What It Actually Takes to Break the Chain of Violence,” drawing on the organizations’ practical experiences and research findings from conflict zones around the world.

In particular, he proposed that when addressing difficult social issues, it is not enough to simply emphasize assert principles such as the “rule of law” and efficient cross-organizational collaboration; what truly matters is how these principles are put into practice on the ground. He also emphasized that precisely because there is not enough evidence for solutions to these complex issues, it is essential to take a proactive approach to put potential solutions into practice and learn from that experience.
His presentation was well-received by the participants.

Beyond this event, we also actively engage in a wide range of opportunities to share the insights we have gained in the field, by collaborating with public agencies—such as the Ministry of Justice—and related organizations both in Japan and abroad.

We will continue to build expertise through hands-on experience in conflict zones, while also sharing our knowledge and insights widely with society to expand the circle of efforts aimed at breaking the cycle of hatred.
